Healthcare Acquired Infections
In recent years, there has been a significant increase in the incidence of healthcare acquired infections (HCAIs) caused by ‘superbugs’ such as Clostridium difficile and MRSA. In 2007, there were over 55,000 cases of C. difficile in the UK and 4,438 MRSA bloodstream infections. However, this figure for MRSA is estimated to be only 6% of all MRSA infections.
Transfer of bacteria e.g. from patients, care home residents and staff to garments is a known contributory factor to the spread of infection.
Fabrix® - A Unique New Liquid Laundry Detergent
Eastern Valley Chemicals have developed a liquid laundry detergent called Fabrix®, which represents a breakthrough in the battle against superbugs. Laboratory tests have proven that Fabrix, which contains the active ingredient Hygienilac®, destroys C. difficile spores and MRSA at temperatures as low as 30oC.
The development of this unique product, which is designed for the commercial (industrial and institutional) sector, places EVC at the forefront of laundry technology.
